Overwhelming vote for action to defend USS pension

Members at 69 universities in the USS pension scheme have voted 78% in favour of strike action, 87% in favour of action short of strike, on a 45% turnout to take action in defence of the pension scheme. The turnout is the highest in a ballot since the formation of UCU.

There is a meeting of union and employers’ representatives on Wednesday 22nd and if there is no satisfactory outcome the HEC meeting on Friday will consider next steps and possible action, which could include a marking sanction.
