Barnsley College UCU members will be on strike for three consecutive days from Thursday 29th January to Monday 2nd February. They have already taken 3 days of strike action since October over the forcing through of a new contract in the summer on the back of a major restructure.
On the 29th strike day the branch is planning a march from the college picket-lines to join NHS strikers at the Hospital to bring together those fighting back against Austerity.
There are talks with management this Friday, though management are seeking to narrow down the scope of these talks. The branch is therefore planning for what follows the 3-day strike. A branch meeting scheduled for the 28th will vote on a proposal to escalate in February to a 4-day strike, followed by 5 days.
UCU branch secretary Lee Short said: “We are meeting a delegation of Lambeth strikers this week – the way they are fighting is inspirational. If members vote for the escalation, it will be the biggest programme of strike action our branch will have ever taken.”
