A message from Marian Mayer
Thank you so much to all who voted for me in the Vice President election campaign. It was a hard fought, democratic campaign and members for the first time in a long time, had plenty of choice.
I worked hard to arrange the majority of the hustings we attended, including the first ever Prison Educators hustings, and I will continue to work to raise the profile of issues faced by Prison Educators regardless of the outcome of this election. It was useful for members to participate in that level of open democracy and it’s something we should continue with.
A lot of what I said during the campaign I still commit to. I will progress the Black Lives Matter agenda both locally, regionally and as a national negotiator. I will continue to raise the voices of our casualised members and I will fight to ensure staff and student safety is treated as our highest priority. I will also endeavour to make sure the voices of members across all of the sectors we represent are heard equally.
Now is the time for us to stand united in the face of the onslaught of attacks on our sectors. Covid 19 is allowing our employers to fast track their neo-liberal agenda and it will take sustained, nationally co-ordinated, well supported action to overturn this. I will continue to organise that fightback from the ground.
Congratulations to Justine and I look forward to working with her. Well done to all of the VP candidates and the LGBTQ+ candidates who all ran excellent campaigns.
Let’s work together to support members as best we can.
Thank you!
Marian
